After you saw the A series of the Unfortunate events’ poster, can you imagine that this creepy photo is considered as a film for children?

This film is based on the series of books by Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snicket. The film covers the first three books in the series – The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, and The Wide Window.

The Series of Unfortunate Events is different from most other children’s books in that people die and miserable things are done to the Baudelaires and their friends. Though I didn’t read yet the book, but some of the comments I saw on the Internet are positive feedbacks. Some says that the film stayed true to the spirit and formula of the books, it expanded on them in ways that made the story much more entertaining. The core stories are here and the cast embodies the characters perfectly. Jim Carrey is perfect as Count Olaf. He takes the evil character from the novels and expands on him greatly. And all the characters are perfect match for the book character.

The opening of the film is absolutely perfect and instantly sets the mood for the story to come. It opens with an ultra-cheesy stop motion film featuring the Happy Elf. The scene then abruptly stops, and Lemony Snicket’s droll voice comes in and informs the audience that this isn’t the film that they will be watching, but they can leave if they don’t want to see the dark, depressing story to follow. It’s a very fun way to open the film! (That part is one of my favorite part of the movie, that witty part made an impact for me”

Also, the sets are also incredible. There’s a dark, surreal, stylized quality about everything that is perfect for the story. It is perfect, but I think this film is not suitable for kids because it doesn’t have any cartoon or cute character in here, like what the narrator said in the opening of the film. It is very different from any other children films I’ve watched.

So far, when I asked what my favorite movie is, the first thing that comes in my mind is this film. I usually love animated film and also film that mostly caters children like Up, Toy Story, Cars etc. But A Series of Unfortunate Events is still the best movie for me, it is has all the ingredients that makes loving this film; it is very interesting, entertaining and witty.

Pee Mak, attack!

I seldom watch a comedy horror movie. Actually, if I count all “comhor” film I’ve watched, I think it will only be less than a 10.

I’m not a fan of a Thai Film or the Thai superstar, Mario Maurer either, but this Pee Mak is a must watch film! Well, there’s no explanation why it was the highest grossing movie of all time at Thailand and there’s no doubt why Pee Mak earned $33M. The film deserves that!

This film is perfect for all “barkadas” who loves to watch a comedy movie. But if you want to put up some spice or add some interesting mix, you can go up to this horror comedy film. Please don’t expect that this film can scare you, because this film can make you laugh out loud than to be a creepy one! :))

I’ve also watched Mario Maurer’s Bangkok ghost story before, like Pee Mak it is also a horror comedy film. Though the Bangkok ghost story and Pee Mak has their similarities when it comes to genre, but for me, Pee Mak is much more worth to watch. I didn’t say that Bangkok ghost story isn’t a great movie, but compared to Pee Mak it is way better.

When I watched Bangkok ghost story it was my favorite horror comedy film that time, until this Pee Mak came.

(Warning, if you want to spoil yourself a little about Pee Mak then go please continue reading this but if you don’t want, you can watch the trailer to put up you a hint!)

In Pee Mak, Mario plays the role of Mak, a soldier who comes home just to see his wife who is rumored to their villages that she’s a ghost. Once the war was over, Mak invited his four best friends to visit his hometown and to meet his beautiful wife– Nak and Dang his newborn baby.  Despite having met Nak and Dang, his four bestfriend believes in the rumor in the village that Nak had died giving birth to her stillborn baby, Dang. As being a good friends, the four find a way to keep Mak away from Nak but all the scenarios of these four friends is always funny, they gave life to the film. They are very entertaining and funny. :)) But in the end, Mak and Nak…..Ooopppps, please watch first the film. I don’t wanna be a spolier, duh! Hahaha

P.S: Like what I’ve said earlier, this film is perfect for circle of friends, you’ll appreciate the film if you have crazy friends beside you! I am sure you will love this film!

The power of Social Media in Films

Social Media nowadays is a big tool to promote a person, a product or a FILM! Yes, social media can do that. Actually, social media is already one of the aspects when they want to influence their target audience. Base from the statistics 93% of marketers use social media for their businesses. Well, you can’t blame them because today, people updates their Facebook statuses first than to go up to bed.

But not all of the effects of Social Media are pretty good. Most of the time, social media users are just a Bandwagon!

psychological theory where individuals will do something primarily because other individuals are doing it, regardless of their own beliefs, which they will ignore or override. This effect has the capability to produce wide implications, but is most often seen in the areas of politics as well as in consumer behavior.”

In my entire life in using Twitter and Facebook this is the first time that one film filled my Twitter and Facebook board. This film is The Conjuring. There are many films that trends in social media, but this film is different. It became so mainstream in the social media and all of the tweets and statuses of the netizens are the same which is: “this film scared me to death”, “the best horror movie I’ve watched..” etc.

Some social media users became a bandwagon because of the effects or the influence of the other social media users. When the majority says it is good, the others will also said it was good.

Back to The Conjuring, the film was overrated because of the netizens. After I see all the posts or tweets about the said film, I am curious what this film is all about and why people love this horror film. I decided to watch the film, alone! Yes, alone. But based from my own opinion, and as I’ve seen…  The Conjuring is just like an ordinary real life horror movie, there’s nothing special. I was a bit disappointed, maybe because I expect something that is different from any other film.

Some people also recognize that The Conjuring is only an effect of Social Media that’s why it became so popular. gdgd gfgd Untitled

You? Do you agree that the Social Media has power to become “Films to watch!”
